2009 Season Underway!

With a week of games in the books, and a successful opening ceremony, the 2009 season is underway. A crowd of 1500 people or more was present to see the teams from Tee-Ball through Majors parade onto the field, while a full schedule of 22 games were played before and after the ceremony. Spencer Jones kicked off the ceremony by reciting the Little League pledge.

The Tee Ball Phillies presented a "thank you" banner to Mayor Johnny Piper, councilmen Geno Grubs and James Lewis, for the new lights on field 1. Mike and Steven Parchman were recognized as well for purchasing a new scoreboard for CNLL.

Mayor Piper spoke briefly of his support for parks, and programs that benefit the children in Clarksville. He recognized CNLL as an example of a fine youth program, and pledged that he and the city council would continue to support CNLL. He praised CNLL's volunteer spirit. Mayor Piper also affirmed his commitment to upgrading the lights on the senior field and field 2 in 2010 and 2011.

As the ceremony came to a close, the dignitaries threw out the first pitch to some of CNLL's finest catchers.

Parents: Is Your Child's Equipment Safe and Legal for 2009?

Please remember that Little League rules prevent the use of painted helmets, or helmets with stickers. Our umpires will not allow painted or stickered helmets to be used in a game, unless factory applied, or approved in writing by manufacturer. Chemicals in the paint may cause the helmet material to degrade and lose strength.

All bats must meet new Little League regulations, which may be found at http://www.littleleague.org/Learn_More/rules/2009_Rule_and_Regulation_Changes.htm. The new 2009 regulations require that the major and below bats be stamped with a BPF rating of 1.15 or lower. Junior League bats must now have a barrel size of 2 5/8 inches or smaller. For complete requirements, please see the link above.

If your child is a catcher, make sure his catcher's mask has a dangling throat guard. All masks provided by the league have this guard installed. You may purchase a guard for your own mask in the CNLL concession stand. Even the hockey style masks are required to have a dangling throat guard attached.
