Congrats to all the All Star teams from this great season

It takes 2 games, but 9 Blue are District Champs

9 Blue continued Clarksville National Little League’s winning tradition Friday night claiming the district 9 title with a 17-10 victory over Burns.  CNLL and Burns each brought one loss to the championship game;  CNLL had knocked Burns into the loser’s bracket on Tuesday,  but Burns battled its way out and beat CNLL Thursday.  With the district championship on the line, CNLL unloaded on Burns with 16 hits and claimed a 17-10 victory.

The Blue team led 4-3 after 2 innings, and Burns was the home team in the contest.  CNLL was unable to plate a run in the third inning, and Burns scored 5 to go ahead 8-4.  But in the top of the 4th, the Blue team answered the bell with 5 runs of its own, and regained a narrow 9-8 lead.  Still leading 9-8 in the top of the 5th, Eli Burchett blasted a 3 run homer straight over the center field fence of Eddie Page Field to increase the lead to 12-8.  But Burns would not go quietly, and punched back with a 2 run homer of its own in the bottom of the 5th.  CNLL sealed the game in the top of the sixth inning, plating 5 runs and putting the game out of reach before Burns had a chance to bat.

The contest saw CNLL out hit Burns 16-9 and walk only 3 batters Friday night.  Jay Watson started the game on the mound for Big Blue, and Eli Burchett closed out the contest.

This District 9 championship marks the third consecutive for this group of young men.  Congratulations to Cal McKay, Brody Lanham, Ryan Piasecki, Eli Burchett, Logan Peay, Jay Watson, Layton Trice, Chipper Harris, Brent Wisdom, Miles Hedrick, Cooper Wallace, and Laine Welch.

9 Blue nips Burns

9 Blue defeated Burns 8-6 Tuesday night at CNLL, and will advance to the championship game on Thursday.  CNLL and Burns were the only 2 undefeated teams left Tuesday when the Blue Team claimed victory.  Burns will now drop back to play St. Bethlehem in an elimination game.  St. B remained alive with one loss by beating Montgomery Central on Tuesday night.    Burns and St. B will face off Wednesday, with the winner earning a rematch with CNLL 9 Blue, and the loser being eliminated with its second loss.

In Tuesdays matchup, Burns and CNLL were tied at 0-0 after one inning of play, but the floodgates opened in the second inning with 5 runs for visiting CNLL.  Burns answered with 3 runs of its own in the bottom of the second.    In the third inning CNLL tacked on another 2 runs, while Burns added 3 to its own score to trail 7-6 after 3 innings.  The Blue team would add another run in the top of the 6th, but it was just insurance, as the blue team defense tightened and didn’t allow another run, and CNLL prevailed 8-6.

Pitching duties for CNLL were shared by Jay Watson, Laine Welch, Eli Burchett, and Brody Lanham.  Laine Welch led the way offensively for Big Blue with 2 hits (single, double) while Trice, Burchett, Peay, Hedrick, and Lanham each contributed singles to the cause.  CNLL’s defense recorded only one error in the game, and the play of Big Blue was at times spectacular.
